Money Wasted?

I purchased an AccuQuilt Go a year ago.  It came with the 2.5" strip die and I purchased a multi 2.5" square die.  I cut a few strips and I cut a few squares then put it away.  I can cut them faster with my ruler I told myself.  I feel like I wasted my money I said.

Last month I decided I really needed to give it a go, give it a fair assessment and make one of the quilts in the Eleanor Burns book that came with the Go.  I found this really cute Sail Boat Baby Boy quilt.  That's the one!

I opened the 8" Cube that also came with it and started unwrapping the dies (a year after purchase).  I cut the half square triangles for the sails (I like making 2 at a time HST).  I cut the bottom of the boat and the HST for the ends (I prefer stitch and flip).  BUT when I got to the water under the boat and the instructions wanted me to cut 2 4.5" strips and SEW THEM TOGETHER to make the 8" water!?!?  I said nope, not, nada.

I scrapped the whole thing and got my ruler and rotary cutter out and started over.  And it took me no time.  It will take me longer to get it basted (my least favorite part of quilting) than it took me to put it together.

Yes, I feel like I've wasted my money.  It isn't the first time and it probably won't be the last.  But this was kind of an expensive mistake.

I may try it on my scraps before I decide to have a grand giveaway.

And here is the finished quilt all washed and crinkly.

Wishing you more sewing time than I will have.
