Wow What a Week

Last Friday I knew that I would be home for at least the next two weeks.  I decided that sewing would be my job for that time.

On Saturday I completed quilting and binding two charity quilts.  These were panels that I inherited from my mother.  They are made with the softest fabric.  They will eventually go to Quilts of Compassion.

Then on Sunday I quilted and bound my grandson's graduation quilt.  He received a scholarship to play baseball with Coastal Alabama Community College.  Thank goodness that his scholarship didn't depend on him being seen this spring. I hope he will make use of this quilt while away at college.

I sandwiched another graduation quilt on Tuesday.  It was like a wrestling match, heavyweight.  The quilt is 82 x 92 and there was no wiggle room on the backing.  I had to take it apart twice and redo.  Even after the third try one edge is just inside the salvage which I hadn't cut off.

On Wednesday and Thursday I cut out three more quilts.  An acquaintance, who lost her father, asked if I could make quilts out of his clothes for her children.

This morning I sandwiched two more that have been in "to be quilted" stack for some time.

Then, several weeks ago my grand daughter sent me this link.  She is the most thoughtful 12 year old I know.  She has been going with her mother to feed the homeless for several years.  Every year she takes her birthday cake to share with them.  She knows most by name.

She came today and we made several masks.  We only had enough elastic for a few.  She did all of the sewing. after a little direction.  She should get Home Ec  credits since school is out for the rest of the year.

Lastly, this was delivered last night.  It was supposed to be delivered on Wednesday and the FedEx website said delayed due to local weather.  Well the FedEx driver must have taken a longer than planned nap under the shade tree after lunch because our weather was 85 degrees and sunny.  I even got 9 holes of golf in.  If you're going to use the weather as an excuse you might want to really check the local weather.

Oh, while we were making the masks today, the air conditioner in my sewing room quit blowing cold air.  I hope we can get it fixed first thing Monday.  I told my family it will be a ROUGH week if I can't spend time in my happy place.

So again, Wow What a Week.

Wishing you more sewing time than I will have.

Charity Quilt Challenge

It's time for Hands 2 Help hosted by Sarah at Confessions of a Fabric Addict again.

I completed 2 small quilts yesterday that will go to this cause.  They will go to Quilts of Compassion.

I am also hoping to share one or two with The Caregivers Initiative by finding a couple of local caregivers.

There are 6 great causes this year and I would love to see the number of quilts donated go above 1K.

I always end my posts with "Wishing you more quilting time than I will have" but being out of work for the next two weeks, I'm hoping I have plenty of quilting time.

But still....

Wishing you more quilting time than I will have.

Scenic Route?

I was reading Sew Preeti Quilts' old posts when I came across this one.  The content was interesting but not as interesting to me, at the time, as the title.

You see, yesterday I was working on a commission quilt for a friends granddaughter that will be attending the University of Alabama in the fall.  The quilt has 12 -  24" blocks with LOTS of HSTs.  I am so proud of my points. All but two look like this and those two are not bad.

Sew I was putting the blocks together thinking I needed to call my friend and tell her she needed to start thinking about how she wants this quilt quilted.

I had put two thirds of all of the blocks together and was adding the last third to them.  I was pinning the last section to the fourth block and realized I was pinning the wrong side together.  That means I have to rip three 24" seam!! I have to rip 15 24" seams.  All 12 blocks looked like this and the three additional sections that were added to the right side with the same orientation.

They are supposed to look like this.

Back to Sew Preeti Quilts title "Mistake? No. Scenic Route? YES."  I'm taking the scenic route with this one.

Time to make friends with my ripper.  UGH!!

Wishing you more sewing time than I will have.

Don't Iron Pounce!

So I've been a little, no, a lot, lax when it comes to posting on this blog.  But it's not because I haven't been busy in the sewing room.  I'll try to catch up in the near future.

I bought a camera that was wifi ready so I didn't have to email pictures to myself so I could post them.  But the camera wouldn't bluetooth to the laptop.  But I found out that my phone would.  So the camera would bluetooth to the phone and the phone would bluetooth to the laptop.  Kinda worse than emailing them to myself.  Now I'm back to taking pictures with my phone.  Wasted money on a new camera.  Oh well.

OK I'm going to back up a little.  When I was marking the quilt that I quilted for a friend, I accidentally ironed the blue pounce.  Let me tell you, an iron will SET blue pounce.  I didn't panic but I had decided that I was going to have to take it apart and replace the border that I had messed up.

I got on a forum (don't ask which forum) and asked the question "how can I get out set in pounce".  I got all kinds of advice including Magic Eraser and don't iron blue pounce.  DUH!!  Too Late!!

I took some scrap fabric, made a quilt sandwich, pounced and ironed, then stitched the pattern.

I tried all of the suggestions and then some.  The results......

All of the solutions worked.  Thank goodness.  The S-32 and Grandmas Secret Spot Remover needed the least scrubbing.  But Grandmas Secret Spot Remover didn't work if not scrubbed.

Lesson learned, don't iron pounce.

Wishing you more sewing time than I will have.
